Job Summary

  • As an Registered Nurse/RNFA, Operating Room Unit, you'll play a vital role in ensuring safe, high-quality patient care.

Education

  • ADN degree required; BSN degree preferred or required to be enrolled in a BSN program within 30 days of employment and successfully obtain a BSN degree within 4 years.

 Licenses and Certifications

  • Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS, PALS and CNOR, RNFA certification preferred.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Specialty-specific certifications as required.
  • ACLS, PALS, CNOR and RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification required. 

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent surgical experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in an acute care setting or completion of an OR resident training program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Resource: Act as a clinical resource for perioperative services personnel using evidence-based knowledge and prevailing standards.
  • Coordination: Coordinate perioperative patient care with other members of the surgical team.
  • Surgical Case Management: Perform surgical case management alongside the surgical team.
  • Consultation: Serve as a consultant, advising the perioperative team in areas of specialty expertise.
  • Practice Evaluation: Assist perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for improvement.
  • Communication: Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with the perioperative team and other stakeholders.
  • Education: Provide educational resources and coordinate with the perioperative educator regarding team education specific to the specialty.
  • Quality Improvement: Organize quality/performance improvement activities within the specialty.
  • Change Management: Facilitate and manage change within the healthcare organization.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
  • Conflict Resolution: Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
  • Operational Management: Manage the specialty operationally and fiscally.
  • Mentorship: Mentor team members within the specialty as required.
  • Professionalism: Serve as a role model of professional behavior.
  • Resource Management: Ensure that the appropriate equipment and supplies are available.
  • Professional Growth: Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
  • Patient Advocacy: Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information. 

Required Skills

  • Follows Hospital/department policies and procedures, safety standards, and legal requirements.
  • Conducts preoperative assessments and plans nursing interventions for patients undergoing surgery.
  • Assists physicians during surgical procedures under supervision.
  • Monitors surgical room and handles specimen collection appropriately.
  • Uses surgical equipment safely and effectively.
  • Provides patient education and support.
  • Ensures availability of necessary supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Transports patients safely.
  • Adapts care to meet the needs of patients of different ages.
  • Maintains proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Demonstrates understanding of organizational structure and communication protocols.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to identify career and educational goals.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $69.27 to $86.83 per hour
