Job Summary:

As a Registered Nurse/Clinical II, Post Partum Unit, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, family-centered care to adult and pediatric patients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Patient Care Coordination: Deliver developmentally appropriate care and education to pediatric patients and their families in a supportive and therapeutic environment.
  • Communication: Maintain professional communication with physicians, families, and the healthcare team using SBAR to ensure collaborative care.
  • Confidentiality: Adhere to HIPAA and VPH policies to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Cross-training: Float to assigned pediatric care areas per hospital policy.
  • Documentation: Use electronic health records to document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Care Evaluation: Collaborate with physicians and mentors to evaluate and adjust care plans based on the unique needs of each pediatric patient.
  • Infection Control: Follow infection prevention standards, including pediatric-specific precautions.
  • Medication Administration: Administer age-appropriate medications in accordance with hospital policy and safety protocols.
  • Nursing Process: Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in a pediatric setting.
  • Patient Advocacy: Serve as a voice for pediatric patients and their families, ensuring compassionate care and support.
  • Discharge Planning: Provide family-centered discharge teaching and coordinate safe, effective transitions of care.
  • Patient Satisfaction: Foster trust with families and children through communication, empathy, and timely care.
  • Patient Throughput: Support efficient admissions, transfers, and discharges in collaboration with the care team.
  • Quality Improvement: Contribute to performance improvement efforts in the pediatric unit.
  • Professional Image: Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, behavior, and communication. 
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of recent nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting and for the department to which the registered nurse is hired.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after April 2023, with an associate degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within 30 days of employment and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
    • Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing
    • Must successfully complete and maintain BLS Certification
    • Must successfully complete and maintain PALS Certification
    • NRP Certification (required within 30 days of hire)
    • Fetal Monitoring Certificate (Obtain within the first 30 days of employment or transfer) 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Use SBAR format to communicate with the healthcare team and families.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain patient privacy and follow HIPAA/VPH guidelines.
  • Cross-training: Train in other pediatric areas as needed.
  • Documentation: Use technology for efficient and complete documentation.
  • Care Evaluation: Regularly assess and update care plans based on clinical findings.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to infection control guidelines to ensure patient safety.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions.
  • Nursing Process: Conduct comprehensive pediatric assessments and provide evidence-based care.
  • Patient Advocacy: Protect and promote the rights and well-being of pediatric patients.
  • Discharge Process: Educate families on post-discharge care and ensure a safe transition home.
  • Patient Satisfaction: Provide timely, kind, and respectful care to patients and families.
  • Patient Throughput: Support unit flow and timely patient movement.
  • PI/Evidence-Based Practice: Participate in initiatives to improve quality of care.
  • Professional Image: Demonstrate a polished and professional presence at all times.
  • Essential Job Functions: Must be able to perform the core duties and physical requirements of the role. 

$57.28 to $76.15 per hour
