JOB SUMMARY:

As a Registered Nurse/Clinical Educator, Operating Room, you'll play a vital role in assessing and improving staff competencies, providing professional guidance, designing education programs, serving as a clinical expert, and contributing to research and quality improvement efforts. Your responsibilities include:

  • Competency Assessment and Management:
    • You're responsible for assessing and managing the competencies of nursing and support staff, ensuring they meet the standards required for optimal patient care.
    • Continuously monitoring methods for improving patient care is integral to your role.
  • Professional Guidance and Role Modeling:
    • Serving as a role model, you provide clinical and professional guidance to staff, helping them navigate ethical decisions in practice.
    • Your actions and decisions set the standard for ethical practice within the organization.
  • Education Programs:
    • You design and implement education programs tailored to the needs of patients, staff, and the organization.
    • These programs aim to enhance clinical skills, promote best practices, and align with organizational goals.
  • Clinical and Professional Expertise:
    • You are both a clinical expert at the bedside and an educator in the classroom, blending hands-on experience with theoretical knowledge.
    • Your expertise serves as a valuable resource for staff seeking guidance and support in their clinical practice.
  • Research and Quality Improvement:
    • Participating in independent and collaborative research activities, you identify opportunities for quality and performance improvement.

Experience: 3 years in specialty area of practice, in acute care setting.

Education: BSN required in Nursing Education or related field. Masters in Nursing, Education preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

    • Current California RN license
    • BLS certification from American Heart Association
    • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification
    • LA City Fire Card certification within 30 days of hire
    • ANCC certification in specialty area preferred 

Specific Responsibilities: The role of Registered Nurse/Clinical Educator, Operating Room is crucial in ensuring high-quality patient care, staff competency, and adherence to professional standards within the organization. Patient Care:

  • Ensuring the patient care process is followed diligently, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, while also contributing to policy and standards development.
  • Orienting new staff to their physical environments, safety requirements, and patient care areas.
  • Demonstrating advanced clinical skills and independent judgment.
  • Assisting in patient education and ensuring staff adhere to professional and clinical standards.
  • Serving as a resource in utilizing hospital-wide documentation tools and technology.
  • Advocating for patients and facilitating educational needs and care conferences for complex cases.

Education:

  • Identifying learning needs through assessments and designing educational activities/programs based on adult education principles.
  • Implementing and evaluating educational activities/programs relevant to participant needs and organizational goals.
  • Collaborating with nurse leaders in evaluating Nurse Residents and orientees.
  • Contributing to policy development and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Utilizing quality improvement data in developing educational activities and demonstrating independent judgment in program coordination.

Operations:

  • Demonstrating awareness of legal issues in professional and patient care.
  • Directing and implementing appropriate responses to emergency situations.
  • Enforcing policies and standards through disciplinary action and participating in the performance appraisal process.
  • Serving as a workflow and information systems consultant when needed.
  • Evaluating products and promoting cost-effective quality care.

Salary Range:  $57.24 to $75.01 per hour
