Job Summary:
As a Laboratory Phlebotomist, you will be a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for collecting blood samples, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, and assisting in the overall operations of the laboratory. This role involves interacting with patients to ensure their comfort and safety during blood collection procedures, as well as accurately labeling and handling specimens to maintain sample integrity. The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist supports the laboratory's mission of providing timely and accurate diagnostic information to aid in patient care.
Experience:
- Previous experience as a Laboratory Assistant and/or Phlebotomist is preferred.
Skills:
- Proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program.
- Associate’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
Licensures/Certifications:
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is required.
- Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Must successfully complete and maintain any additional certifications required by state or local regulations.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Specimen Collection:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect blood specimens from patients.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
- Specimen Handling:
- Label and handle blood samples according to established protocols.
- Prepare specimens for laboratory testing, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
- Laboratory Maintenance:
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the phlebotomy and laboratory areas.
- Monitor and maintain phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
- Data Management:
- Assist with data entry and updating patient records in the laboratory information system.
- Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Safety Procedures:
- Follow infection control and safety procedures to protect patients and staff.
Salary Range: $24.20 to $32.13 Per Hour
